Since 1993
Our story
In 1993, Dany Bouchard founded DBx GEOMATICS inc. as a consulting firm in geographic information systems (GIS). The company worked primarily with federal government clients that needed custom GIS solutions.
Through the late 1990s, the team was among the first to develop web maps with Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG). Surrounded by talented software engineers, the company set out to improve the technology available to create web maps and visualize data.
CartoVista is headquartered in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada. That consulting heritage still shapes how we work with customers through professional services and project inquiries .
In 2010
Elegant web maps
The CartoVista software was born after several years of research and development in web mapping innovation. "We saw a need to create fast and elegant web maps that are well suited for business decision making," said Dany Bouchard.
The first version launched in 2010 with desktop components. Over the years, CartoVista evolved to help governments and businesses visualize strategic data in new ways. In 2016, the company rebranded to CartoVista and began serving customers worldwide in seven languages, across every continent. See what the platform offers today on our features page.
2021 to today
Built for the cloud
A major SaaS initiative transformed CartoVista: we rebuilt the platform around the cloud, redesigned the end-user experience, and made professional web mapping accessible to everyone, not only GIS specialists.
That shift opened high-value use cases across utilities , insurance , local government , retail , and more. Updates ship continuously, infrastructure scales on demand, and teams collaborate from anywhere without installing software. Connect your data through integration , publish from QGIS with our plugin , and choose a plan on pricing .
From our CEO
We now have a full web platform to easily create rich interactive map visualizations and compelling stories in the cloud. Our solution is user-friendly and accessible to anyone. CartoVista is fully ready for growth.
